Chief Curator / Content Programmer

San Francisco, CA

We are launching our curation and editorial team, and are looking for an experienced go-getter with limitless ambition for progress in spoken-word audio and passion for quality journalism to lead the team. This role calls for someone who can identify and execute the best spoken-word audio listening experience for a multitude of use cases and moods, has a passion for performance-oriented analytics, and has her/his ears to the ground in the audio community (public radio, podcasts, news, audiobooks, long-form audio narration, etc.).

What you’ll do

  • Be the editorial voice of Otto Radio and manage the daily featured programming and curation strategy.
  • Curate a list of theme-based and trending content targeting specific events and audience (e.g. The 2016 Election, Sporting Events, Tech Conferences, Fashion Shows).
  • Have a deep understanding of the audio community, and actively thinking of ways to shape our growing community through innovative curation methodologies such as crowdsourcing, collaborative filtering, etc..
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams such as product, engineering and marketing to productize new content initiatives and progress towards various content objectives.
  • Maintain a substantial number of varied programming based on topics and themes, and stay on top of new podcast launches and emerging publishers.
  • Develop relationships and facilitate meetings with relevant publishers, bloggers, and podcasters.
  • Analyze analytics and performance indicators of all content initiatives.
  • Work from our office in San Francisco.

Who you are

  • At least 3 years of experience from the journalism and media industry, ideally programming content for radio, newspaper, digital media outlets, or podcasts, working with a broad range of content.
  • You have a deep knowledge of audio and the emerging technologies.
  • You’re able to demonstrate a strong understanding of - and experience with - Otto Radio as a user.
  • You are also able to lean on a good reputation and a strong network within the media industry.
  • You care about attention to detail and organization, have a team spirit, strong work ethic, and a friendly, warm attitude… we are a very close-knit family!

Senior Android Software Engineer

San Francisco, CA

The Otto Radio team is looking for a full-time Android engineer to bring the Otto Radio experience to Android users. As a Senior Android Software Engineer, you will spearhead our efforts in building an elegant Otto Radio listening experience on world-class technologies, anytime and anywhere. We are looking for someone that has strong experience developing user interfaces for applications on Android using Android SDK.

What you’ll do

  • Work closely with our product and design teams to launch the Otto Radio experience for the Android platform
  • Prototype new and redesign features
  • Strong coding abilities and experience with Java and Android SDK
  • A focus on UI design principles and making apps work intuitively
  • Contribute best-in-class programming skills to develop highly innovative, consumer-facing mobile products

Who you are

  • B.S. or M.S. Computer Science or 4+ years in software development experience
  • 2+ years of object-oriented software development experience
  • 2+ years building Android applications in Java using Android SDK
  • 2+ years mobile application development experience (Android, or J2ME)
  • Experience in understanding large and complex code bases, including API design techniques to help keep them clean and maintainable.
  • Experience in the following technologies:
    • Experience with Java language and related frameworks
    • Experience with Multi-Threading and memory management specific to mobile devices
    • Experience with caching mechanisms
